Life changes. When last did your will?

A few months ago, we shared a newsletter highlighting the importance of having a will. Life gets busy, and updating your will often falls to the bottom of the to-do list. If you meant to do something but didn’t, can this be the trigger to contact us?

Unfortunately putting it off can leave your loved ones facing unnecessary uncertainty.

This is the next in our series of practical articles on the benefits of financial advice. Previous articles in the series are here: Want to Know? Click here

Are you one of the 15% of South Africans who have a will when they die? Many people delay drafting or signing a will because it’s easy to assume there is still plenty of time. September is Will’s month. We would like to emphasise the importance of a will.

Got married, got divorced, had a child, grandchild, financial changes or lost a loved one named in your will? It is worth reviewing your will.

What is a will?

A will is a legal document that states who should look after your minor children and what should happen to your assets, possessions and estate after your death.

This includes:

  • Who will be appointed as guardian to any minor children.
  • Who inherits your money, property, investments and belongings.
  • Who will act as the executor of your estate.
  • Any specific wishes regarding certain assets or beneficiaries.

We’re here to help.

Take the opportunity this Wills Month to ensure your affairs are in order and your loved ones are protected.

Get in touch with your financial planner or contact us today to discuss your will and estate planning needs.

If another Wills Month reminder catches your eye and your will still isn’t in place or up to date, we’re happy to help whenever you’re ready.
